Early this morning November 28, 2012 at approximately 12:30 am Norfolk County Fire & Rescue Services responded to a reported structure fire located at 276 Hillcrest Road. 

During firefighting operations a firefighter was injured and taken to hospital where he was treated and released. The extent of his injuries is not known at this time.

The fire was discovered in the attic by the homeowners who immediately called 911. Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately 30 minutes before bringing the fire under control. 

The fire started from the chimney of the wood burning appliance.

Norfolk County fire stations 1 (Simcoe), 11 (Vittoria) and 5 (Delhi) were dispatched as the area is not serviced by fire hydrants.

 Damage to the home and its contents is estimated at $20,000.

 It is advisable to have your chimney inspected and cleaned once each year.

 The eleven year old home had working smoke alarms.
