Great Escape Home Fire Drill

(Simcoe,NorfolkCounty) – This Friday, September 30, 2011 the Municipality of Norfolk County will be having a community fire drill. Under the direction of Norfolk County Fire and Rescue Services, residents are encouraged to develop and practice a home fire escape plan.

At six o’clock Friday evening local radio station CD 98.9 will broadcast the signal for families to start their home fire drill.
NorfolkCountyfire safety education staff have visited all elementary schools to educate students on how to make a home escape plan.
Students are encouraged to bring a copy of their home fire escape plan to the Norfolk County Fair and drop it off at the Fire/Rescue booth to be eligible to win one of three prizes including a family trip to Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara Falls or a zip line package for 8 persons courtesy of Eco Adventures in Norfolk County.
“Having working smoke alarms can provide early warning in the event of a fire in the home. Having a plan to escape your home quickly and safely greatly increases your chances of surviving a fire”, said Fire Safety Educator Scott Pipe.
October 9 – 15 is Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme is Protect Your Family From Fire.
Norfolk County Fire & Rescue Services will be at the fair each day providing free residential sprinkler demonstrations outdoors in addition to an indoor display.
