Port Dover Fire Department History

Timeline of Notable Events :

1880- A fire brigade was put together for the village of Port Dover,

1908 – the first-hand fire engine was purchased for $75.00 for the village of Port Dover

1920- the first recognized fire department was founded with a paid fire chief for the town of Port Dover; the town gave the fire department a budget at this time to buy equipment

1926- the first motorized fire engine was built by the Gambles for the Fire Department

1974 –  Haldimand Norfolk region was formed, and with it, the City of Nanticoke; the station became Stn#2

1991- The new fire hall opened in Oct and all trucks moved from Market Street Hall to Nelson

2001 – Norfolk County was formed, and we became Stn#2 of Norfolk County
